Hi {{ first_name | friend }},

At the last session of the Return to Yourself program at the Quogue Field Club, the group surprised me with a mini rose bush, a gift given in everyone's name. It was such a sweet and memorable gesture.

I could have planted it in my parents’ garden and let it take root there. This was a gift I wanted to keep with me and take care of myself, so this little guy flew home to Austin on the side of my backpack. The flights went smoothly; the rose bush had a rougher trip, and a couple of its branches got crushed along the way.

Back in Austin

Today it lives near my balcony, and I check on it every day. I carefully removed the leaves that had dried up, and it's stronger now, with its new growth turning darker and new stems sprouting.

Every time I look at it, I think back to the work the group and I did together this summer. With our breath guiding us, we traced old patterns back to where they started. We questioned habits that had felt familiar for years, asked where we had first learned to see a situation that way, and looked at it again through a different lens. Once we understood those patterns, letting them go made room for who each of us already was.

Over the summer, I watched new stems come in for the group too. A few people went home and showed up differently with the people closest to them, a friend in one case, a parent or a partner in others, and their conversations went deeper than they ever had.

Projects that had been dragging on for months started moving again. One person went back to making art and spent hours playing, and another, after years of being hard on themselves, started meeting themselves with real love.

The rose bush came home with me, and what each person grew within the group this summer went home with them.

I know what it's like to change seasons and places. Since I started practicing HypnoBreathwork years ago, I walk into each new moment with intention, and I've learned to welcome every season for what it teaches me. Back in Austin, I bring that same intention to the people I work with, including you, and to the small things I choose to care for, like the rose bush by my balcony.

The leaves I removed and the stems sprouting now come from the same roots; it's still the same rose bush. We're made the same way: some things we let go of and others we choose to keep, and each of those choices is us deciding to believe in ourselves and elevate who we are, with every part of us still there, ready to grow wherever we go.

What will you give room to grow again, while staying fully yourself?
